Saturday night was certainly an unforgettable one at the US Cellular Center. Not only was it the second round of the Collins Community Credit Union Scholarship Scramble, but the Titans were also taking on their biggest rival, the IFL 5-time reigning champion Sioux Falls Storm.

For this second round of the Scholarship Scramble, it was David from Prairie taking on Jordan from Jefferson.  David is a second-year contestant coming off a tough defeat in the second round last year, just barely keeping him out of the finals. Talking to him pre-event, the loss still stung. Jordan meanwhile was not a football player, and had high hopes, but wasn't sure what to expect. Jordan was up first.

The first two balls from Jordan connected perfectly as he got off to a great start. However, that's where the struggles began. Unfortunately, he was unable to connect on the remaining targets, and thus finished with 2 points. This left the door wide open for David, who had no problem connecting with the first toss, but then stunningly overthrew the second toss and was already down one point. However, the next one connected, giving him the automatic win. He would go on to hit the final long ball as well, giving him 6 points, and advancing him to the next round. Talking to Jordan post game, he was happy to just get one, let alone two. So congrats to both contestants, who regardless both received a delicious 6 pack of cupcakes thanks to Kathy's Pies.

As for the Titans, this was an intense game, as the Titans led most of the game, but it was a full on battle throughout, going back and forth for a while.  The game down to the last few seconds as Cedar Rapids had a 3 point lead, with Sioux Falls having possession. With about 5 seconds left, Titans defender Devin Ghafoor picked off the pass to secure the Titans win, giving the Storm their first loss since June 14, 2014, which was also at the hands of the Titans. This breaks a 22 game win streak. It was indeed an "edge of your seat" game, and we enjoyed every moment of it.

So far, we've seen Linn-Mar, Jefferson, Prairie, and Washington in this year's competition. This Saturday night will add Kennedy into the competition to compete against a school to be announced soon. We have yet to hear from Marion and Xavier by the way, as well as Center Point-Urbana or Springville, who both have competed in previous years. Any high school student from any school is elgible, and can register by clicking the link below.  It's been an exciting season so far. We'll see where it goes from here.
