[UPDATED] Names Released in Accident on County Home Road That Killed Two
A Thursday afternoon accident on County Home Road, at the intersection of North Troy Road, claimed two lives and injured several others.
The crash, which was reported at 3:44 Thursday afternoon involved three vehicles. They were a '97 Dodge Ram pickup, a 2007 Chevy Aveo, and a 2009 Chevy Silverado pickup. The Dodge Ram and Chevy Aveo were waiting to turn left onto North Troy Road when they were rear-ended by the westbound Silverado. The Aveo was hit first and was pushed into the Dodge Ram.
There were five people in the Aveo. Two were pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to University of Iowa Hospitals by Area Ambulance and Lifeguard Air Ambulance.
The driver of the Aveo has been identified as 37-year-old Jennifer Perez of Belle Plaine. Both Perez and her 4-year-old daughter (secured in a child safety seat on the rear seat of the vehicle) were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with what appeared to be serious injuries. They were later transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Perez was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The front seat passenger in the Aveo has been identified as 14-year-old Elysia Severson. She was flown from the accident to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City with life-threatening injuries. The two rear seat passengers, 16-year-old Selena Apodaca and 13-year-old Isabella Severson were both pronounced dead at the scene. It is not known at this time if the three were wearing their seats belts. All of the children in the vehicle are daughters of Jennifer Perez.
The driver of the 1997 Dodge Ram was 16-year-old Jaymus Wilson of Robins. He and a passenger, his 8-year-old brother, both were wearing their seat belts and were not injured.
The driver of the Silverado, 35-year-old Keith Furne of Cedar Rapids was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. He was wearing his seat belt.
The investigation continues by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
