CBS Sunday Morning To Feature Iowa Event That Happens Saturday
The skies of Clear Lake, Iowa will be filled with massive kites and banners Saturday, most of them designed and hand-made by the people that own them. It's all part of the annual 'Color the Wind Kite Festival', held in the Cerro Gordo County town each winter.
The 17th annual event is held Saturday at 10 North Lakeview Drive (Lakeview Community Center), on the banks of Clear Lake, which the banners and kites (many as much as 60-feet high or wide) will fly over. CBS Sunday Morning will be on-site to film a feature story about the event. There's no word on when that story will air on the show.
If you're planning on making the trip, the all-ages event is held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 180GO and Fire 'n Ice, stunt kite teams will do demonstrations of two and four-line kites, all choreographed to music, throughout the day. Kites you can expect to see Saturday include an octopus, whale, and red dragon.
Want to purchase a kite? Those will be for sale near the Community Center (photo at top). Kids will be able to fly their kites at City Beach. Food and beverages will be available from a food truck at the same location.
