Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas Are Co-Founding a Record Label
Demi Lovato teased some big, document-related news a week ago, and now it looks like the "what did Demi sign?" mystery is solved: The singer has co-founded a new music venture with Nick Jonas and their manager Phil McIntyre.
The newly-minted Safehouse Records will work in conjunction with Island Records and Disney's Hollywood Records to release and promote Lovato's fifth studio album, Billboard reports. Safehouse will house a label that will see more signings in the near future — presumably it will be McIntyre, who was the Jonas Brothers' longtime manager in addition to developing Demi's music career, who'll take the lead on artist discovery. But the prospect of Nick and Demi having a hand in an as-yet unknown artist's future is an interesting one, and Safehouse Records sounds like a smart way for the two to expand their footprint in the music industry.
Demi said of her new business project (quotes via Billboard), "I've worked closely with both Nick and Phil for years and we share the same point of view when it comes to making music. It's incredibly exciting to be part of this new company where I'm in control of all aspects of my career. I can't wait to share what we're working on!"
Like their former Disney contemporary Miley Cyrus, Jonas and Lovato have made a successful transition from child star to fully-formed adult artist. Miley has recently used her chart success as a springboard for personal projects such as her Happy Hippie Foundation supporting homeless and LGBT youth. The founding of Safehouse Records sees Nick and Demi spreading their creative wings as well.
