Des Moines Zoo Expecting Baby Black Rhino This Fall
Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines is going to be getting a new and rare delivery this fall. Reports say that the zoo's two eastern black rhinoceroses Ayana and Kiano, are expecting a baby rhino this fall.
Experts say that Ayana's pregnancy is the first confirmed within the black rhino zoo population in nearly two years. They say it could be a turning point in the decline of the animal's population.
Des Moine's rhinos are two of just 46 eastern black rhinos currently housed in zoos in the United States. The animals are listed as critically endangered by the World Wildlife Fund.
