Hawkeye Great Roy Marble Has Died
The all-time leading scorer in Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball history has died at the age of 48.
The news came from a current Iowa men's basketball assistant coach.
Roy Marble, was diagnosed with stage four cancer last summer and a Twitter photo from Iowa State basketball player Monte Morris two weeks ago showed Marble in a weakened state.
Let's remember Roy this way, in his glory days at Iowa. If you have trouble viewing the below video on mobile, click here.
Marble scored 2,116 points during his Iowa career, which spanned the mid to late-80's. He is still the all-time leader in Iowa men's history. Marble was a first-round draft choice of the Atlanta Hawks in 1989, but his NBA career never blossomed. His son, Roy Devyn Marble, had a terrific Iowa career more recently. In March of 2013, the two became the first father-son duo in Big Ten history to both score more than 1,000 points in their career. Roy Marble Senior was a proud dad who was a fixture at Iowa games during Devyn's Hawkeye career.
Rest in peace Roy and thank you for the memories. Our condolences to Devyn and the entire Marble family.
