Iowa Olympic Gymnast Says She Wouldn’t Put Daughter In Gymnastics [VIDEO]
Shawn Johnson East represented her country in the Olympics as a U.S. gymnast. She won 4 medals at the 2008 games. But the team that she was a member of has been shattered by charges of sexual abuse former trainer Larry Nassar.
Johnson East has had to sit and watch as former teammates like Aly Raisman and Jordyn Webber confront their abuser in court. She also has had some tough words for USA Gymnastics, saying the organization "failed to protect the athletes it claims to care about."
Johnson East also stated that given the current state of USA Gymnastics, if she had a daughter now, "I couldn't put her in it." She went on to say that the system needs to change. You can check out Shawn Johnson East's entire emotional statement on her Youtube channel.
