‘IT’ Trailer: And You Thought Clowns Were Scary Before

Subscribe to i107-1 KRQN on

You know what they say: Everything is better with friends. That includes fighting an evil demonic clown who lives in the town sewer system and has an affinity for Victorian era garb. Wardrobe preference notwithstanding, Pennywise is still pretty darn terrifying, especially if you’re already scared of clowns — in which case, you might want to avoid the new trailer for IT.

The new trailer for the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s classic horror novel hits Peak Evil Clown around the time Pennywise creepy-crawls through a room stacked with clown ephemera. If you can get past all of that, there’s plenty of new footage in the trailer, which focuses on the coming-of-age aspect of IT, and the importance of strength in numbers — vanquishing a demonic clown is a tried-and-true group activity, you know.

That aspect is a key part of King’s novel, in which a group of misfit kids (who call themselves the Losers’ Club) discover that the special bond they share empowers them in the fight against pure evil:

When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

“IT” stars Bill Skarsgård (“Allegiant,” TV’s “Hemlock Grove”) as the story’s central villain, Pennywise. An ensemble of young actors also star in the film, including Jaeden Lieberher (“Midnight Special”), Jeremy Ray Taylor (“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip”), Sophia Lillis (“37”), Finn Wolfhard (TV’s “Stranger Things”), Wyatt Oleff (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), Chosen Jacobs (upcoming “Cops and Robbers”), Jack Dylan Grazer (“Tales of Halloween”) and Nicholas Hamilton (“Captain Fantastic”).

Directed by Andres Muchietti, IT hits theaters on September 8.
