Dwayne Johnson to Star in New Action Flick Described as ‘Die Hard in China’
Dwayne Johnson continues to be the hardest working actor in Hollywood, seemingly immune to the flaws that plague mere mortals — like getting tired and needing a good nap. The actor has added yet another project to his ambitious pile, which already includes Fast 8, Jumanji, that recently announced Robert Ludlum cinematic universe, and (probably) Doc Savage. Basically, Dwayne Johnson is making you look real lazy right now.
Deadline reports that Johnson is re-teaming with Central Intelligence director Rawson Marshall Thurber for a new action project described as “Die Hard in China,” with “one man against extraordinary circumstances.” Thurber will write and direct the film, which has already drawn sizable bids from major studios, including Sony and Paramount.
If you’ve been keeping up with your Rock News, then you know that he’s also been talking about remaking John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, in which he’d play the iconic role originated by his Furious 7 co-star Kurt Russell. Johnson recently told Fandango that the project is still very much happening — although it’s definitely not the movie he’s making with Thurber in China (20th Century Fox holds the Big Trouble rights), it might put him right where he needs to be to get that remake moving.
