One Direction to Perform at 2015 American Music Awards
One Direction’s fifth (and possibly final) album Made in the A.M. is set for a November 13 release date, which means the four-piece is currently gearing up for another one of their whirlwind promo tours. As such, it's no surprise they’ll take the stage during the 2015 American Music Awards.
The group is set to perform their current single “Perfect” during the awards show, which, according to Billboard, marks One Direction’s fifth top 10 debut in the Hot 100 chart. This means the UK boyband currently holds the record for "the most top 10 Hot 100 debuts among groups,” beating nobodies The Beatles who held the previous record with four.
One Direction are nominated in two AMAs categories this year, including the coveted Artist of the Year award. And while they’ll probably lose that one to the unstoppable force that is Taylor Swift, they can always go through their collection of AMAs past and reminisce over those instead. Last year they took home three trophies following an emotional performance of their single "Night Changes," but it was a simpler time then -- Zayn was still in the band, Louis was nowhere near fatherhood and whispers of a hiatus were quickly and efficiently shut down. How far we've come!
In further news, the AMAs partnered with Twitter to create custom emojis for all of the evening's performers. Tweet out the hashtag #AMAs1D to see their tiny animated heads pop up. Such emojis also exist for 5 Seconds of Summer (#5SOSonAMAs), Selena Gomez (#RevivalAMAs) and Carrie Underwood (#CarrieonAMAs).
The American Music Awards, hosted by Jennifer Lopez, will air on November 22 at 8 PM EST on NBC.
