13-Year-Old Dead Following Cedar Rapids Shooting
Cedar Rapids Police have three people in custody in connection with a shooting that has left one person dead.
Officers were called to the 800 block of 15th Ave. SE at 7:52 Tuesday morning. Police were in the area and upon response discovered a teenager with a gunshot wound.
Witnesses told police that the suspects were running in an alley between 15th and 16th Street SE. Officers and K-9 units found three men running in the 1500 block of Washington Ave SE. All three were in custody within 10 minutes of the call to police.
The 13-year-old girl who had been shot was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals where she was pronounced dead. Her identity and the names of the three people in custody have not been announced. Cedar Rapids Police describe them as three male suspects, two of which are juveniles. The third is a young adult.
Police believe everyone involved in the shooting is in custody and no there is no threat to the public. The investigation is continuing.
