Remembering Muhammad Ali’s Visit To Cedar Rapids
Recently, we lost perhaps the greatest athlete we've ever seen. Muhammad Ali died at the age of 74. His nickname was 'The Greatest', and he embodied that in and out of the boxing ring. He was part of some of the most memorable fights in boxing history. A lesser known bout actually happened right here in Cedar Rapids. But this fight happened after Ali had officially retired.
The Champ made his lone visit to Cedar Rapids in 1982 to raise money for a local charity and to spread the word of Islam. While he was in town he wanted a sparring partner. What he got was national Golden Gloves champion, Steve Eden. You can see Eden's memories of that six-minute fight below in an interview with KCRG's John Campbell.
