Russell Brand Still Talking About Marriage to Katy Perry
It's been three years since Russell Brand and Katy Perry called it quits on their 14-month marriage and filed for divorce (which Brand requested via text message), but the comedian's still talking about it.
The trailer for his upcoming documentary, BRAND: A Second Coming, is edited in a way that implies he succumbed to all the evils of Hollywood, which ultimately culminated in his marriage to Perry. At one point he says, “Of my f—king God. I’m living, like, this life of the very thing I detest — vapid, vacuous celebrity.”
The clip then cuts to footage of the former couple walking through a crowd as paparazzi take photos of them, while Brand says, “Fame, power and money is bullish—t.”
Immediately following that image is a shot of Perry in an interview with Brand, saying, “I don’t want to give all this up.”
Of course, there’s no real context to the way any of this footage is presented in the documentary, but it does it gets the job done: Brand clearly regrets the marriage. Deeply.
Perry, however, painted a different picture when she spoke about the dissolution of their union during her Vogue cover story in 2013, saying Brand simply wasn’t willing to accept that the two were on even ground, career-wise. She said, "At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're like, I can't handle the equalness. He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting."
