The ‘Gander’ Brand Returns To Cedar Rapids
After nearly two years, one brand new yet unopened retail facility, and a name change later, the Gander brand has returned to Cedar Rapids. Gone is 'Gander Mountain' and in its place stands 'Gander Outdoors'.
The store held a soft grand opening this past weekend at the new store at 2140 Edgewood Road in Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids store is the only planned Iowa location for Gander Outdoors.
An official grand opening event will take place this Saturday at 9 a.m. to mark the opening of the new 31,0000 square foot store. It begins with free pastries and coffee. Then, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there's hot dogs and chips, via a local Boy Scout Troop. Kids can paint a lure from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and build a duck call from 1 to 3 p.m.
In September of 2016, the company said that it would be closing down the Edgewood Road store and moving to a new 52,000 square foot building on Blairs Ferry Road in Cedar Rapids. But a few months later the company filed for bankruptcy. They were later purchased by Camping World, who rebranded the new company as Gander Outdoors.
After months of speculation about the new building and who would use it, Rockwell Collins announced that it was going to use the facility for their new Child Development Center.
