It's the night I personally can't wait for; the return of the Cedar Rapids Titans season, which officially kicks off Saturday night at the US Cellular Center.  The event also marks the beginning of what could become one of the biggest cross state rivalries, as the Titans welcome Kurt Warner's old team, the Iowa Barnstormers from Des Moines for their first face-off ever, being dubbed "The Iowa Bowl".

A couple weeks ago, the Titans took to a new field, and new seating arrangement, at the Cell Center for a preseason game.  It was a chance to get the players back into play mode, while weeding out which players would actually make the cut.  On that potential lists were two former Hawkeyes (both which received a huge roar when they were announced in opening line-ups), both which DID make the squad.  And this year's season might just be the best yet.  Not only are they coming off another HUGE season, making the playoffs yet again, but many of their stars are back too.  Plus throw is this new cross state rivalry, and you just can't help but get excited.  We also hear tickets are selling quick, so make sure you don't wait.

But there's 2 other reasons I personally get super excited for when it comes to the returning Titans season.  I felt it immediately the other Friday as I picked out my "uniform", as I have a side job with the Titans.  Since last season, I've been honored to be the pre-game Master of Ceremonies, whose sole job it is to fire up the crowd. I love it!  I love feeding off the fan energy and turning that energy right back to them.  It's a complete thrill.

The other big reason I love Titans football, is because of what i107-1 does every season during halftime, and that is the Collins Community Credit Union Scholarship Scramble.  It's the chance for any High School Student to come out to the game and compete on the field against another high schooler for the chance to advance to the finals and win a $500 Scholarship.  Even better, they become a school hero winning $250 for their school.  Second place also gets that $250 dollars.  It's a great community focused, give back event that we are so pleased to bring to the community.

While we've had returning contenders, we've never had a repeat winning school. So far Jefferson, Solon, and Prairie have taken home the title.  And although there's only 8 spots available, we've also seen competitors from Linn-Mar, Marion, Kennedy, Xavier, Springville, Center Point Urbana, and Washington in years past.  We've already got Springville and Washington returning for this year so far, as they'll be facing off in Round 1 Saturday.  That means only 6 spots remain for this year.  Have you registered for this awesome opportunity yet?
