Armie Hammer Bashes Celebrity Stan Lee Tributes
They say there's no wrong way to mourn, but Armie Hammer begs to differ.
Within hours of legendary comic book writer Stan Lee's death, celebrity tributes began pouring in and the Call Me By Your Name actor had a lot to say about how his peers chose to memorialize the legend.
"So touched by all the celebrities posting pictures of themselves with Stan Lee," Hammer said in a tweet that has since been deleted. "No better way to commemorate an absolute legend than putting up a picture of yourself."
The 32-year-old faced some pushback from fans. One suggested stars were simply "remembering how it felt to meet him with those photos," but Hammer was having none of it.
Another fan asked, "What else u supposed to do when someone dies armie."
"If your answer is 'post a selfie' then I think we need a cultural revamp across the board," the actor tweeted back.
Hammer then praised Mark Ruffalo's tribute, tweeted at him by a follower. He called the moving memorial "an example that stood out and made me think his post was actually about Stan."
Hammer did not share his own tribute to Lee, who died on Monday at the age of 95. Lee's daughter, Joan Celia, confirmed his passing to TMZ.
Lee had been dealing with medical problems for some time when he died. Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with pneumonia and, not long after, was rushed to the hospital, TMZ reported at the time.
