See Buttercup Kick Butt in ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Reboot
The first clip of the upcoming Powerpuff Girls reboot has finally been released, giving fans a first listen of the show's new voice actors.
Judging by the short clip, the largely girl-power-centric show hasn’t changed much — and that’s a good thing. The animation has stayed largely the same (which is what creators originally promised), and although the voices of the girls are noticeably different, Natalie Palamides’ Buttercup (the only Powerpuff girl who speaks in the clip) is as bold as ever.
The video's YouTube description explains the episode's premise pretty succinctly, saying, "Manboy, born of brawn and musk, has vowed to turn the city of Townsville into the city of Mansville, a place where men are men and boys are men, but not if The Powerpuff Girls have anything to do with it. Can super-powered sisters Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup save the day?"
Powerpuff Girls originally aired from 1998 to 2004, spanning 78 episodes total. Tom Kenny has signed on to return to the reboot as the narrating mayor, while Amanda Leighton will play Blossom, Kristen Li will voice Bubbles and Natalie Palamides is set to play Buttercup.
Cartoon Network was hit with a brief bout of upset back in June 2015, when it became apparent that the show’s original voice actors weren’t asked to return for the reboot. Tara Strong (the original Bubbles) tweeted about her (understandable) disappointment at the time, writing, "I have NO ILL FEELINGS 4 the actresses in the new #ppg, We were just beyond hurt we were NEVER asked..every role I breathe life into I love."
The Powerpuff Girls reboot is set to air on Cartoon Network in April.
