First the potatoes, now the pizza?!

Taco Bell made even more customers unhappy this week. According to a new article from USA Today, Taco Bell is getting rid of five more menu items in November. The items on the chopping block include the Mexican pizza, pico de gallo, and all of their shredded chicken options (the Shredded Chicken Soft Taco, Shredded Chicken Burrito, and Shredded Chicken Quesadilla Melt). The good news is that Taco Bell does eventually plan to add new items to the menu. The article says:

"Fresh diced tomatoes also are scheduled to replace pico de gallo and a couple of new items will be added like the new Chicken Chipotle Melt and Dragonfruit Freeze."

The Dragonfruit Freeze will arrive on September 24th and the Chicken Chipotle Melt is expected on November 5th, the day the other items will disappear. A newly innovated green sauce will also be available on November 5th in select markets.

It looks like the item that people on social media will miss the most is the Mexican Pizza, but Taco Bell says they have a really good reason for getting rid of it. The press release says:

"One silver lining of saying goodbye to the Mexican Pizza that might help you rest easy is that removing it from our menus helps us work towards our commitment to leave a lighter footprint on our planet. Currently, Mexican Pizza packaging accounts for over 7 million pounds of paperboard material per year in the U.S."

Taco Bell began scaling back their menu in July, when they announced the removal of a whole bunch of popular items. Those items were officially removed on August 13th and include:

  • 7-Layer Burrito
  • Beefy Fritos Burrito
  • Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes
  • Chips & Dips
  • Grilled Steak Soft Taco
  • Loaded Grillers
  • Mini Skillet Bowl
  • Nachos Supreme
  • Quesarito
  • Spicy Potato Soft Taco
  • Spicy Tostada
  • Triple Layer Nachos

Taco Bell is promising us that this new phase is the final one of their "2020 menu revamp," so that hopefully means that no more of our favorite items will be eliminated. I already miss the Loaded Cheesy Potato Griller so much...
